Where to get nappies

Reusable nappies are abundant these days, but how do you know which ones to buy and where to get them?

This guide will help you source nappies that you can rely on. It will look at both new and second-hand nappies, as well as nappy hire options.

New nappies

Ask for feedback from other reusable nappy users on brands they like. Quality reusable nappies can cost anywhere from $25 (budget) to $45 (designer, hand made), including inserts.

Nappies below this price may either be a shell only (you need to add inserts), a newborn nappy, or a cheap nappy that will lack performance.

So how do you know which is which?
CHeap nappies - no brand name
Generally prices 'too good to be true', and often sold on bulk discount sites like Amazon, Ebay, Temu and similar. You may also find quality brands on these types of sites, so this alone is not an indicator.

The price point is usually around the $5 to $10 range. These nappies sometimes may include a thin, synthetic insert that won't do the job, and the shell is not waterproof.

They can make a cute nappy cover but will let you down in their ability to contain baby's output.

They generally won't have a brand name. In all, they are not a good investment.
CHEAP NAPPIES - Branded
Nappies such as Alva baby are very affordable, have attractive prints and reasonable performance. You may need to add additional inserts or use alternative inserts, but for the price they suit some families.

Have a good look at the images and description to ensure they will suit your baby. Some may have only a single row of waist snaps which can affect the fit.

Because each brand is unique, it is worth trying a few different brands until you find one that is a good fit for your baby. They will vary in length, width, and even the position of snaps.
