Myth 1: Reusable nappies cost more

False. Although the upfront cost of cloth nappies may seem like a lot at once, you will actually save thousands over the nappy years. 
Over 2-3 years of nappies, cloth can save you thousands. 

• Two and a half to three years of disposable nappies will cost between $2,000 - $3,000.
• A complete set of modern cloth nappies to last this time is around $800.
• Even with washing costs and detergent (approximately $500 over the three years), you are still financially ahead. 

If you include a set of reusable wipes (around $30), you can save up to $600 on disposable wipes per child over three years. 
The savings compound if you use the same set of nappies for subsequent children. 

Myth 2: Reusable nappies use more water than disposable

False. Manufacture of disposable nappies uses around 1500 litres of water for one week's worth of nappies. It takes around 100 litres to wash one week's worth of reusable nappies.
